Woman accused of helping Austin Drummond indicted on new charges

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. – A woman accused of assisting accused quadruple murderer Austin Drummond was back in Madison County Circuit Court on Monday, April 6, and faced new charges.

Prosecutors presented Circuit Court Judge Donald Allen with three new indictments against Michell Ovelis for possession of marijuana with the intent to sell and/or deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Ovelis was indicted on March 30, 2026 for the three charges that, according to prosecutors, occurred on July 30, 2025.

Two of the indictments read that “on or about July 30, 2025, in Madison County, Tennessee and prior to the finding of this indictment, did unlawfully and knowingly possess with the intent to sell a controlled substance, to-wit; not less than one-half ounce (14.175 grams) of marijuana, a Schedule VI Controlled substance.”

The third indictment reads that “on or about July 30, 2025, in Madison County, Tennessee and prior to the finding of this indictment, did unlawfully, intentionally, knowingly, and/or recklessly use and/or possess with the intent to use drug paraphernalia.”

Ovelis is represented by attorney Jeff Boyd. Judge Allen told Ovelis he expected Boyd to file a Motion for Discovery on the new charges soon and Boyd would be discussing the Discovery material with her when he receives it.

Ovelis is scheduled to be back in court on Monday, April 20 for a status hearing on both cases. Judge Allen said he would like to have a status hearing regarding the drug charges as well as the charges she faces in connection with the Drummond case.

She is scheduled to appear in court on May 5 to begin her trial for the five accessory after the fact charges regarding the allegations that she assisted Drummond in evading arrest from law enforcement.
