Southwest Tennessee Tourism Association launches new “Legends” Series
PRESS RELEASE FROM SOUTHWEST TENNESSEE TOURISM ASSOCIATION:
JACKSON, Tenn. — Southwest Tennessee Tourism Association is proud to introduce its new “Legends” Series, a storytelling initiative dedicated to honoring the individuals whose lives and legacies have shaped the region’s rich cultural heritage.
The series is a natural extension of the Association’s new branding initiative, Small Towns, Big Stories, which celebrates the powerful stories found throughout Southwest Tennessee’s communities.
Spanning the counties of Chester, Decatur, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, Henderson, McNairy, and Madison, Southwest Tennessee is home to generations of remarkable people whose stories reflect resilience, creativity, and lasting influence.
The Legends Series brings these voices to the forefront, highlighting the men and women who have helped define the character of the region.
“The Legends Series gives visitors a deeper reason to explore Southwest Tennessee,” said Marty Marbry of the Southwest Tennessee Tourism Association. “By sharing these authentic stories, we’re inviting travelers to connect with our communities, discover our history, and experience firsthand the spirit of Small Towns, Big Stories.”
Each month, a new legend will be featured through multiple platforms, including the Association’s monthly publication, Shout Out Southwest Tennessee, its website (www.VisitSWTenn.com), and its Facebook page.
Through these stories, the series connects audiences with the people behind history, whose lives continue to inspire and shape the region today.
The inaugural feature in the Legends Series highlighted Queen Haley Jackson of Savannah in Hardin County.
Queen Haley Jackson is widely recognized as the grandmother of Alex Haley, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Roots: The Saga of an American Family. Her life story, marked by strength and perseverance, was later chronicled by Haley in Alex Haley’s Queen: The Story of an American Family, which was adapted into a television miniseries in 1993.
With each new installment, the Legends Series will continue to spotlight individuals whose contributions have left an enduring mark on Southwest Tennessee.
By honoring these legends, the Association invites residents and visitors alike to experience the stories behind Small Towns Big Stories.
