2 Memphis men charged after 25 rounds fired in Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. — Two Memphis men face charges after 25 rounds were fired in a Jackson neighborhood Monday, according to the Jackson Police Department.

Police say Central Dispatch received a ShotSpotter alert at approximately 5:24 p.m. Monday indicating 25 rounds fired in the area of 132 Lincoln Circle.

As 911 calls reporting gunfire began coming in, dispatchers monitored police cameras in the area. Dispatchers saw two men running from behind a building and entering a black Ford Expedition that sped away.

JPD says responding officers received the information and stopped the vehicle leaving the area and found two firearms in the vehicle. One had been equipped with a “switch,” an illegal modification allowing the weapon to fire fully automatic.

Investigators from the Major Crimes Division detained and later interviewed the vehicle’s occupants. Evidence at the scene matched the recovered firearms.

Several vehicles and a building were struck by the gunfire; No injuries were reported.

According to JPD, Deangelo Brown, 22, and Dewonta Rodgers, 21, both of Memphis, have been charged with felony reckless endangerment in connection with the shooting. Brown was also charged with possession of a prohibited weapon.

Both men will be arraigned Thursday morning in Jackson City Court.
