Freed-Hardeman promotes assistant Grant Burns to Head Men's Basketball Coach
The Freed Hardeman lions men’s basketball team has found their new head coach and it will be
Grant Burns. The past five years he served as the assistant coach for the lions.
He has helped FHU to a 141-33 record.
The past three seasons have been some of the best
with Burns assisting the team to a record of 97-11
and two national championships. Burns also was the one
who coached up the defense. Being that they allowed the lowest field-goal percentage in
the country and the second-lowest points-per-game allowed in the nation. He
was selected twice as the mid-south conference’s assistant coach of the year, first in 2023-24, and again in
2025-26. This is what Burns had to say
“I want to give a huge thank you to coach Stutts
without him taking a chance on me,
I wouldn’t be getting this opportunity. Faces and names may change,
but the standard remains the same.”
