‘Laundry and Literacy’ event benefits families and their children

JACKSON, Tenn.—This morning, families in Jackson were able to get help with laundry and their children’s reading at the same time.

The “Laundry and Literacy” event was held at Hollywood Laundromat on Hollywood Drive.

Wellpoint partnered with Jackson-Madison County Schools picking up the cost of washing and drying clothes.

Families received gift cards for the machines, baskets of laundry essentials, and free books for kids to take home.

“We just wanna emphasize the importance of community, partnering with the school system, and again we would like to thank Hollywood Laundry Mat for opening their doors to our families, to our school system,” said Rhonda Bigham.

Organizers say the goal was to lift some financial stress off parents while putting more books in children’s hands.
