St. Nicholas Orthodox Christian celebrates Holy Week

JACKSON, Tenn.—St. Nicholas Orthodox Christian Church celebrates Holy Week.

St. Nicholas hosted its Easter service beginning at 10:30 Saturday night.

The service offers repeating Paschal Hymns in celebration of Christ Resurrection. After adjourning, members go home to rest.

Then Sunday, a Vespers service is held with a processional filled with more singing of hymns.

Following the service, church members gathers to enjoy the Agape Picnic, bringing in a variety of foods and drinks to share.

“If you are visiting an Orthodox church for the first time, my first words would be: come and see, and have no worries, cares, or expectations about what is expected of you. We are just thankful and happy to have you. And we will accept you with open arms and invite you to participate in everything that we are doing,” said Father Matthew Snowden.

The church hosts these events each year in celebration of Holy Week.
