Re-entry job fair helps people with criminal records find work

JACKSON, Tenn. — The American Job Center hosted a re-entry job and resource fair at Jackson State Community College.

The event focused on helping people with a criminal record or other barriers get back on their feet. Attendees met with employers ready to hire, got connected to GED and vocational training, and could talk with housing groups about finding stable, affordable places to live.

“We do have a wide variety here; we represent many sectors. We do also have representation here through the American Job Center of apprenticeship programs. It’s not just for young people, but for anybody that may be looking to change their current career path, or explore new options,” said Tara Stanley, regional director of Northwest and Southwest Tennessee Job Center.

The Justice Bus was also on site, providing free legal advice and help with issues that can stand in the way of a fresh start.
