Special ed. student suffers carpet burn after being dragged by Selmer Elementary employee, sheriff’s office says
MCNAIRY COUNTY, Tenn. (WMC) – The McNairy County Sheriff’s Office has arrested and charged a school employee accused of dragging a student with special needs.
On March 19, a McNairy County deputy responded to two DCS referrals that had been made at Selmer Elementary School.
When the deputy arrived, he was informed by two witnesses that an employee, later identified as Meg Day, had physically assaulted a child.

According to the deputy’s report, Day grabbed a non-verbal 9-year-old special needs student by the lower half of his body and drug him across a rug.
Another faculty member later observed the student reaching for his back, and noticed a “blood red mark.”
The deputy says that the student was taken to the nurse where it was confirmed that he had carpet burn.
Day was later taken into custody and is now facing a simple assault charge.
This is the second alleged assault in the McNairy County School District in two days. On March 18, Selmer Middle School lunch staff member, Sequoia Hively was charged after allegedly hitting a student on the back of the head.
