Update on Illness that Closed Union University

JACKSON, Tenn.- WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News has discovered what illness forced Union University to close its campus for almost two days, last week. The state Health Department has confirmed it was norovirus that sickened hundreds of students and staff. Health department officials spent the last several days examining and testing stool samples to determine the cause. Norovirus is a group of viruses that affects the stomach and intestines. According to the CDC, norovirus is also estimated to cause more than 70,000 hospitalizations and 800 deaths each year in the U.S.
