BOLIVAR, Tenn- Hardeman County is beefing up their school security procedures, starting on Thursday with their first ‘School Safety Summit’. School principals, law enforcement, and first responders collectively discussed ways to improve security in Hardeman County Schools. Because of the rural area, many schools in the county are miles away from local law enforcement. “When we look at travel times from our county seat next to where some of our schools are located, that is a concern to me,” said Warner Ross Director of Schools for Hardeman County. Ross said steps are already being taken to improve safety. Recently deputies began stopping by schools to increase visibility and the board is requiring all schools to practice an “intruder drill”. “All of our schools have crisis plans,” said Ross. “We just need to look at improving those.” Administrators said they will be scheduling more meetings with law enforcement; but no official date has been set.
