Spring your home into safety

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance shared some simple steps to help spring your home into safety.

According to the news release, you can:

  • Get rid of clutter.
  • Trim tree branches.
  • Maintain landscaping.
  • Clean the gutters.
  • Change smoke alarm batteries.
  • Clean the dryer vent hose.
  • Stabilize outdoor stair railings.

And spring weather brings the potential for severe weather. The release says you can be ready by:

  • Creating a home inventory of your belongings in the event an emergency strikes.
  • Reviewing insurance policies.
  • Preparing an emergency kit.
  • Preparing an evacuation plan.

“I encourage all Tennesseans to help make our homes and neighborhoods safer by taking some easy steps this spring that might prevent an insurance claim later,” said TDCI Commissioner Carter Lawrence. “Spring is also the perfect time to review your family’s insurance policies to make sure you have the proper coverage to help you recover in the event of an emergency or if severe weather strikes.”
