Five high schools participate in career fair
HUNTINGDON, Tenn. — Students from a local county had the chance to learn about different opportunities in their community.
Carroll County Vocational Technical School welcomed five high schools from the county to their annual career fair.
“We’ve got businesses and academic institutions out, the National Guard, all kinds of different folks. Tennessee Department of Corrections, Tennessee Highway Patrol, different folks coming out, showing our students what jobs are available when they leave high school,” said Lisa Norris, a Criminal Justice Teacher at Carroll County Vocational Technical School.
There were students from all classifications. However, those who benefited the most are the ones graduating in less than three weeks.
“My college, I want to go to Jackson State. And then I want to major and get a degree in Criminal Justice and afterwards I want to finish off at Martin and get my Bachelors degree,” said Caden Wood, a senior at Clarksburg School.
Although some students had an idea of what they wanted to do after graduation, they also learned about more opportunities their desired field offers.
“The Baptist, they said it’s not just nursing. Like they have marketing, pharmacy, stuff like that that you can go into the medical field. So you don’t just have to do nursing,” Kyleigh Scott, a senior at Clarksburg School.
Not only did the fair help students navigate their career choice, but it even helped solidify their future plans.
“I actually want to open a small bakery around here. I think it would be good for the community and stuff like that, but on the side, nursing is another thing that I’m really big in. So I’m not quite sure what I want to do yet, but still looking at a lot of plans,” said Hunter Reid, a senior at Huntingdon High School.
