JACKSON, Tenn- The sequester was the topic of discussion at this month’s ‘First Friday Forum’, as U.S. Rep. Stephen Fincher spoke to the crowd about what is going on in Washington. Fincher did not waste time addressing the budget cut issue. He gave a presentation highlighting what he considers ‘excess spending’ in Washington. In addition, he discussed ways to boost the economy, including the support of energy resources. Community members were able to ask the representative questions, most related to small business solutions in Jackson and tax reform. “I am a servant of the people,” said Fincher. “I work for the 8th Congressional District. I don’t work for the President or Speaker Boehner. I work for the people. I’m trying to make sure I’m looking out for them and their interests.” Fincher said he blames both parties for what is happening in Washington and hopes that a solution can be made. “Don’t give up. We’ve been down before as a country and we always rise above it,” said Fincher. “And we’ll rise above this by working together.” The ‘First Friday Forum’ is held monthly by the Jackson Downtown Development Corporation. The next forum will be held on April 5.
