Body Found Behind School, Police Investigating Homicide

JACKSON, Tenn- Jackson police are investigating the city’s first homicide of the year, after a body was found behind an East Jackson Pre-K Center. Police say the body of William Joseph Nachlinger, 25, was found in his car in the parking lot of Whitehall Pre-K Center, early Monday morning. According to police, a parent dropping off a child at the school saw the man’s body in the car and called 911. Investigators believe the body had been there for at least 24 hours. As a safety precaution, the school was locked down while police searched the campus, but was immediately lifted after the search. “We assured officials at the school that we didn’t think the children were in any danger,” said Lt. Tyreece Miller, of the Jackson Police Department. Investigators have not yet released the cause of death; but Miller said evidence at the scene indicates that Nachlinger was not killed at the school. “It’s terrible that the young man was killed, but it would have been worse if he were killed at the school,” said Miller. Police want to talk to anyone who saw or spoke with Nachlinger on Saturday, the last day they think he was alive. Investigators have not said what might have led to Nachlinger’s murder, but they did release a mug shot they had on file. A request of his arrest record turned up several past incidents. His first encounter with Jackson Police was in 2007, with an evading arrest count. Each consecutive year until 2010, investigators said Nachlinger was arrested on a drug count.
