One Dead, Two Injured in Henry Co. Shooting

HENRY COUNTY, Tenn.- The Henry County Sheriff’s Department are investigating a shooting that happened near Paris, Monday afternoon. Investigators said John M. Baxter, 72, lived in the 5200 block of Foundry Hill Road with his wife and daughter, and they believe Baxter got into a verbal argument with his wife that lead to him shooting both women before killing himself. “Both victims were struck multiple times by a couple of different gun shots. Two different types of guns,” said Sheriff Monte Belew of the Henry County Sheriff’s Department . Deputies found Baxter dead inside the home from a self-inflicted gun shot wound. Baxter’s wife and daughter were both transported by medical helicopter to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. “We don’t know the status of either victim at this time. My hopes and prayers go out to them. I just hope they are okay,” said Belew as his deputies processed the crime scene. Investigators said deputies have responded several times in the past to the home for domestic disputes, and believe Baxter and his wife were going through a divorce at the time of the shooting.
