Pedestrian hit and killed on Highway 79

HAYWOOD COUNTY, Tenn.– A man walking across the street outside his home was struck and killed by an oncoming car Saturday night. According to Tennessee Highway Patrol, around 7:45 p.m., 68-year-old Ronnie Wayne West was walking across Highway 79 just north of Brownsville with his walker when a car heading northbound tried to swerve around him. West was struck and was pronounced dead on the scene by authorities. The car swerved off the road during the crash and overturned on the side of the road. THP said they will not be pressing any charges. They do not suspect any alcohol or drugs were involved.
