Hiker found more than 2 days after being reported missing

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (AP) – Authorities say a missing Tennessee hiker was found in the western North Carolina mountains more than two days after her hike began.

The Johnson City Press (http://bit.ly/1LNKig7 ) reports a search and rescue team located Washington County Assistant District Attorney Julie Hays alive but injured Monday afternoon.

Haywood County Sheriff’s Sgt. Heidi Warren says Hays was found four miles from the trailhead. Warren says Hays left a note on her vehicle, indicating that her hike began at 10 a.m. Saturday. The note gave rescuers an idea of how far Hays might have traveled by the time the search began. Authorities say search crews found Hays after hearing a woman’s scream.

Warrens says after Hays was located, crews carried her out of the forest. Officials say 120 searchers contributed to the search.
