JACKSON, Tenn. — An accused gunman was in city court Tuesday on charges stemming from a Friday shooting in north Jackson. Tyler Corbitt is accused of firing at least eight gunshots at a vehicle around 8:40 p.m. on Janie Lane, according to an affidavit. A vehicle turned north onto Janie Lane and the man and woman inside saw Corbitt standing in front of a residence, according to the affidavit. The victims told police Corbitt pulled a handgun from his waistband and fired at least eight shots at the vehicle as they tried to drive away. The woman suffered a graze wound to her right cheek, but there were no other injuries, the document states. Police recovered eight 9 mm shell casings on the ground and two projectiles from the vehicle, according to the release. The nearby mobile homes were occupied at the time of the shooting and some residents were outside, police say. Corbitt was detained around 11 a.m. Monday by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. A deputy reportedly found brass knuckles in his possession. Corbitt is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment with a firearm and possession of a prohibited weapon.
