Jackson & West Tenn. YMCA closes all facilities, plans for bankruptcy

JACKSON, Tenn. — The YMCA of Jackson and West Tennessee has ceased all operations and intends to file for bankruptcy. The closings are effective Monday, Oct. 5, and include YMCA facilities in Jackson, Brownsville and Trenton along with the discontinuation of programs offered outside YMCA facilities, according to a release. The organization plans to file for chapter seven bankruptcy and dissolve as an organization, the release states. The YMCA of Jackson and West Tennessee has operated at a financial deficit for several years, according to the release. “Like so many other businesses, charities and organizations in our area, our YMCA was severely affected during the economic down turn,” Katie Pace, chair of the YMCA’s board of directors, states in the release. “Declines in membership and donations over the past several years coupled with the addition of increasing maintenance expense for aging facilities have proven too difficult to overcome.” The see the full release, visit the Seen on 7 section of our website.
