JACKSON, Tenn. — If you get a call threatening to cut off your power if you don’t immediately pay your Jackson Energy Authority bill, the utility company says not to worry — it’s a scam. Callers acting like JEA reps have been threatening to disconnect power if they do not get immediate payments, according to JEA. Customers are reportedly being asked to pay by prepaid debit card. JEA has reassured customers they will never call seeking personal or financial information over the phone. They also will never call demanding an immediate payment or threaten to disconnect services. Anyone who receives a scam call is urged to call Jackson police at 731-425-8400 or JEA at 731-422-7500.
