Candlelight vigil remembers veterans

JACKSON, Tenn.—Hundreds of our nation’s finest have gathered in the Hub City this week to remember those who have paid the ultimate cost. VFW Post 1848 held their 17th annual All Veterans Reunion this week and Saturday they stopped their festivities for a moment of silence to remember those who have lost their lives on and off the battlefield. “This week we have commemorated the 50th anniversary of Vietnam and that’s meant a lot to a lot of these guys,” Desert Storm Veteran John Harrison said.”It helps us to remember all the soldiers that have gone before us all the guys that have died in battle all the guys that have died since they been home.” “It’s a lot of remembering, and you’ll see it on their faces as they just think of where they were when they were,” Julie Cartwright, a veteran’s daughter, said. ” It’s great there’s a lot of history in this room and these men love to talk and if you just sit down and have a conversation with them they would love it.” For Harrison, these reunions allow the younger veterans to see the camaraderie the Vietnam Veterans learned from those who fought in WWII. “We look up to the Vietnam guys to learn how to build the brotherhood that they built so the Afghan, and Iraq and Desert Storm veterans can learn how to build that brotherhood ourselves,” Harrison said. The reunion will wrap up Sunday morning with a church service at 10 a.m.
