SELMER, Tenn. — The city of Selmer is now at the fingertips of anyone with a smartphone or tablet. A new app highlights place eat, shop, and buy a home, among many other things. Bryan Huff is the man behind the app. Selmer Mayor John Smith tasked him with creating the online avenue. After consulting with multiple companies, learning about generating computer codes, and having to learn Android and iPhone technology, Huff has Selmer on the technological map. “This gives them a way to click on something, pull it up, and say I’d like to go there. They can get a phone number or whatever they need, and it’s easy access,” Huff said. Local business owners hope the app will bring in old friends and new sales. “It’s not just local people that keep up. People that were once from here like to keep up, too. I think that app is going to be a good way for them to do that,” Mekenzi Mitchell said. She owns Antlers and Arrows in downtown Selmer. Huff said the app still isn’t completed, and may not ever be because of all the possibilities of growth. The mayor said he hopes it not only brings tourists into Selmer, but brings the community closer together. Other cities in Tennessee, like Memphis and Nashville, have already gone mobile. With a population of about 4,500 residents, many hope an app will help Selmer stand out. Huff said he’s confident the community response will be positive. SInce its launch just more than a week ago, the app has been downloaded more than 200 times. Huff said the app development cost the city about $4,000. Anyone who wants the app can download it for free on the App store for iPhones and on Google Play for Android devices.
