HENDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. — Lexington High School is put on high alert Friday after a student makes a threat against the entire school. “It’s horrifying. It’s scary to think about all the school shootings that have happened in the past,” concerned grandparent Glenda James said. Henderson County Sheriff Brian Duke said additional deputies patrolled the school after a student said he would severely harm others at the school Thursday night. Duke said it’s unclear whom the threat specifically targeted “I think there was an altercation with some other students,” he said. “But to err on the side of caution, we’re going to treat it like it was a threat to the entire student body and faculty.” Investigators said the 15-year-old student ran away from home Thursday night. As a precaution, school staff said it entered into high alert mode. “This may be nothing more than an angry statement made in a rage, but until we know different, we’re going to treat it as a legitimate threat,” Sheriff Duke said. James said she supports the decision to add extra security while the student is missing. “I think we have no other choice but to take it seriously,” she said.
