JACKSON, Tenn. — It has been nearly a month since the sudden closure of the YMCA Children’s Center in Jackson, and some employees still have not received their final paychecks. “We were supposed to get paid on Oct. 15,” said former employee Romanette Mendoza. “I called Ms. Angela Oct. 16 to find out what was going on. She said that the checks were late.” Mendoza has been waiting nearly two weeks for her check. She said she has made phone calls but that none of her calls have been returned. WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News got a statement from YMCA board member John LeCroy saying, “The reason the checks haven’t been distributed is because there’s no money in the bank. However, there’s a possibility that some of the property from the Jackson YMCA can be sold in order to issue checks.” Other employees who have not received their checks are angry. “I just want to get paid,” Kamieka Clark said. “It is hard, and I do have bills that are not on delay.”
