Hazardous household waste disposal service to be in Madison Co. Saturday

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — The state’s mobile household hazardous waste collection service will be in Madison County on Saturday. The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation will be providing the service from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at 112 Union Street in Jackson. This is an opportunity to dispose of unwanted household chemicals and other potentially hazardous wastes at no cost and in an environmentally friendly way. A release from the state says to place containers in sturdy boxes lined with newspaper when transporting materials to the site to prevent spills and cross-contamination in the trunk of a car or back of a truck. Be sure to keep materials away from children and pets. Materials should be kept in the original containers whenever possible, the release states. If not, place each waste in a separate plastic container with a secure lid and label its contents.
