JACKSON, Tenn. — Some former YMCA employees are having a hard time making ends meet after not receiving their final paychecks. Former YMCA employee Anna Duck said that it has been extremely difficult for her because of the absence of funds. “We almost lost our house due to the fact that not only the last checks, but our last three checks constantly bouncing in the bank,” says Duck. YMCA Board President, Katie Pace said she wishes she could help, but disbursing checks would be pointless. “I have checks, that’s a good thing. The bad thing is that is, we just don’t have money to pay them. So if I handed out checks right now, it would be the paper that it’s printed on, that’s it,” says Pace. Pace emphasizes the fact that she only works for the YMCA as a volunteer, and is doing all she can do to help get funds to employees. “All of us have jobs and other commitments that we’re responsible for as well.” The YMCA is hoping to sell some of their property in order to raise money to pay employees.
