Trenton teacher named statewide Educator of the Month

TRENTON, Tenn. — A West Tennessee teacher received a big honor this week. CaRae Sewell, one of WBBJ’s Educator of the Week winners, now has the honor for a whole month.
We first surprised Sewell in September with our weekly Educator of the Week award, and since then the Trenton Rosenwall Middle School family helped make her the state’s Teacher of the Month. “I was really floored,” Sewell said. “I never expected to see my name above the Educator of the Month logo. It just kind of blew my mind.” Sewell said her classes and former students have been pulling for her to keep winning. “These were children I had 16 years ago that I hadn’t talked to in years and to know that, that impact was that far reaching was humbling.” Administration and students told WBBJ they’re proud that one of their own Educators of the Week is now Educator of the Month. “She helps us learn and she is just a really nice teacher,” Kalia Sanders said. “One of the nicest teachers that I’ve had.”
Sanders said she loves that Sewell is so interactive with the class. “I like what she teaches us because we get to write instead of just listening and watching — we get to write, too.” Sewell said she is honored to represent her school. “You laugh together, you cry together, you build relationships together,” Sewell said. “Through the course of the school year you become a family within the four walls.”
