JACKSON, Tenn.–Dozens of local organizations will volunteer their time throughout April. The city of Jackson kicked off the Month of Miracles on Monday. A team from Jackson City Court cut the grass and raked leaves at a home on Laplace Drive Monday morning. “These are non-violent misdemeanor offenders and they‘ll be out doing work instead of having to house them in the jail, and feed them in the jail,” said Judge Blake Anderson. Judge Anderson says about 300 offenders will participate in community service this month. “We‘re able to help people who can‘t help themselves,” he said. The city declared April the Month of Miracles. They want people to volunteer their time, work on a project, and make the city a better place. “I hope they take away a little bit of pride in that they are contributing to the community and giving back,” said Bill Brewer, executive director for Madison Haywood Developmental Services. Madison Haywood Development Services assists people with disabilities. The yard work helps Brewer‘s clients. “It will save them some money they can spend elsewhere, but it beautifies the neighborhood,” said Brewer. Judge Anderson has crews lined up to work for 16 days in April. “The 300 people that we have, have all made mistakes, but they have a chance to redeem themselves now,” he said. There is still time to sign your organization up for the Month of Miracles. To find out how more information, check out the website http://miraclesinjackson.com.
