Christmas Cottage sale begins this weekend

JACKSON, Tenn. — The holidays are just around the corner, and a local organization is having its annual Christmas Cottage to kick off the season. “Everything here is handmade, handcrafted and hand baked,” said chairman Krisann Blair. More than 30 years of traditions and a year of planning are coming together Thursday. “I would say that most of us work year-round on our projects,” Mary Ann Martin said. “We have different projects every year, some traditional things, and we’re always excited to work toward Christmas Cottage.” The UT Extension FCE Christmas Cottage is a yearly fundraiser for the club to raise money to support their year-round activities. “We sell all the items and a percentage goes to the county council. which is our governing body to do our service projects for the year,” Blair said. “We’re very community oriented.” The sale started as a way for the Homemaker Club members to showcase their talents to the community. “We have crafts, canned goods, baked goods, we have a chilly cottage for lunch,” Blair said. “There is just something for everybody.” Not only are there handcrafted items to get you in the holiday spirit but there also are items that could be paired to make gifts. “The busiest time is Friday morning at 9 a.m. When we open by about 8:30, there will be a line out to the parking lot, and we will have another rush around lunch time,” Blair said. Organizers said items sell for as little as 50 cents. The Christmas Cottage will be open starting at 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday inside the UT Ag Extension Auditorium.
