JACKSON, Tenn- Today, the National Rifle Association (NRA) released its school safety recommendations known as the “School Shield Program”. The Republican-led initiative makes one message clear. It believes more guns in schools will keep everyone safe. The plan includes eight safety recommendations, including a training program for school personnel who want to carry a firearm. The plan also suggests more comprehensive training for School Resource Officer, and further funding by the Departments of Justice, Homeland Security and Education. While some local parents don’t agree with all of the NRA’s School Shield Program suggestions, they agreed that more has to be done to protect children at school. “As long as our kids are safe and secure, we need to do something; but it needs to be done in an organized fashion,” said R.J. Washington III, a Madison County parent. To read the NRA’s 225-page plan, go to www.nraschoolshield.org.
