Goodwill’s ‘Blue Friday’ sale brings business to new store location

NORTH JACKSON — In the middle of the holiday shopping season and ahead of Black Friday and Gray Thursdays sits the newest addition — Blue Friday. Most of the shoppers are searching for seasonal specialties. “Christmas decorations and Christmas decor are one of the heaviest items donated that we get,” said Lisa Williams, manager of the Goodwill in north Jackson. Nutcrackers, reindeer and Santas are all half off for the one-day-only sale. Shunteay Harris says she was counting down the hours for these door-busting deals. “I knew that it was Blue Friday today and that at 8 o’clock I would be here,” Harris said. “I was about five minutes late, but I knew I’d be here.” Harris said she plans to use everything in her overflowing shopping cart to make her living room festive. And she says her husband won’t even mind. “I’m saving dollars, so he’s OK,” she said. A few aisles over, Marie Johnson is on the hunt for the perfect Christmas ornament. “Look at that. Is that adorable or what?” Johnson said. “I like to take a wreath and then get what I want and put it on and decorate it how I want to.” Johnson says she spends hours at Goodwill each week because it means she can make one-of-a-kind holiday wreaths. The Blue Friday deals also include half off on infant clothing. The deals will run through closing Friday night.
