Community hosts Thanksgiving dinner at Westview Center

CEDAR GROVE, Tenn. — Many people came out to the 19th annual Westview Community Center Thanksgiving dinner. Although everyone was able to come together and fellowship with each other, the condition of the community center itself is deteriorating. The Westview Community center was originally built as an elementary school in the 1950’s and hasn’t had any remodeling since. “There was once a school here at one time, it was viable to the community, it meant a lot to the people here in the community. Unfortunately when they stated downsizing they closed the school,” said Westview Community Center volunteer Jessie Scott. The building has survived tornadoes, fires and even random acts of vandalism, but the condition of the facility won’t stop community members from gathering. “We started out in the begining, the building was in terrible shape, and as you can see it’s still in bad shape today, But we have worked very hard trying to have fundraisers,” said Scott. Money raised in the annual Thanksgiving dinner will go directly to the Westview Community Center building fund. “It’s for the community center, most of it’s just to keep up with the electricity, so we can pay out electric bill, that’s mostly what it goes to,” said community center volunteer, Warren Price. Volunteers are hoping to soon remodel the building.
