Bulldogs pumped for homecoming season opener
NORTH JACKSON, Tenn. – Union University’s men’s basketball team has held over 25 practices together. They’re ready to play someone in a different jersey. “Sometimes you get tired of beating on the same guys every day,” head coach David Niven said. “When you play someone else, it gives you a chance to expose some weaknesses more than anything.” The Bulldogs will play Rhodes College in an exhibition game in a few days during homecoming. The team is treating the contest like a real game. “This is an exciting time of the year. It’s November. Basketball season is finally here,” Niven said. “We should have a really good crowd on Saturday. A fun atmosphere to play in. I think they’re excited and ready to get going.” “We need to be unselfish on offense. Turn down a good shot if my teammate has a great shot. On the defensive end, really be a team that takes pride on getting stops. That doesn’t always come naturally to a team that’s gifted offensively.” The women’s team will also play Rhodes College on Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs tip off at 4 p.m., and the men play at six.
