Commissioner spends November putting up Christmas display
DARDEN, Tenn. — For one county commissioner, vacation means time to deck the halls. Henderson County Commissioner Aaron Wood spends the month of November decorating for his drive-thru winter wonderland. “We really do enjoy doing this,” Wood said. For more than 20 years, he and his wife, Joyce, have put the growing display together. On Thursday, Wood lays out all the wiring and extension cords. “If I can get all the wiring done, it makes such a difference,” he said. Once all the lights are tested, he and his wife then will begin to hang the various displays. With everything from homemade candy canes to Sesame Street characters, the couple’s yard transforms and officially opens the night after Thanksgiving. Wood estimates he uses about 5,000 feet of extension cords and has nearly a million lights. The Christmas village is located at 5885 Darden Christian Chapel Road. The Christmas display is free to enjoy, but donations are accepted to help cover power costs and purchase items for future displays.
