McKenzie police arrest man after 2-hour search

McKENZIE, Tenn. — Police have arrested a man who ran from the scene of a domestic incident Tuesday morning at a McKenzie hotel. The incident began then witnesses reported an erratic driver, later determined to be Kevin Melton, headed from Jackson to McKenzie, according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department. Melton was reportedly following his ex-girlfriend. Officers in McKenzie responded to the Best Western hotel for a domestic incident where they found that Melton had several outstanding warrants out of Benton County. Melton fled the scene on foot but was arrested after two hours of searching. Police received numerous tips from residents who provided a possible location. Melton is being transported back to Benton County. It is not yet clear what the previous warrants were issued for, and it is not yet known whether he will face charges in McKenzie. School officials briefly placed Bethel University on lockdown as a precaution.
