HENDERSON, Tenn. — A 10-year-old is caught by Henderson police driving an SUV with two passengers. According to an incident report the juvenile driver’s father, 31-year-old Jeramy Burlison is in the front seat and a 7-year-old is in the back. “That’s a little young to be driving on the highway. I think the dad was a little careless,” Henderson driver Chris Holmes said. Police said another driver reported seeing the child driving in the Jacks Creek area before heading toward Henderson on Highway 100. “Traffic was very heavy based on it was time for school dismissal,” an officer wrote in the incident report. “I don’t feel safe as it is and can you imagine having a 10-year-old behind the wheel?” Deanna Estevez said. Records show Burlison’s license has been suspended since 2014. At the advice of the district attorney’s office, Henderson police only issued the man a citation for allowing an underage juvenile to operate a motor vehicle, the report states. Ben Sterchi works in Henderson. “As a father you should know better than to put your kids in that kind of danger,” he said. Several drivers told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News they’re shocked Burlison was only ticketed. “He got off lucky, very lucky,” Holmes said. “At least the kids weren’t hurt. That’s the main thing.”
