Ex-Selmer Officer Fights for His Job

MCNAIRY COUNTY Tenn.- A hearing was held in Selmer, Thursday night, for fired Selmer Police officer, Quinton Garland, to ask the Board of Alderman for his job back. Garland was fired from the police force in February, after he was arrested and charged with domestic assault. The charge against Garland was dropped on March 21 for lack of proof. Garland told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News more than 60 people came to the hearing to support him. One alderman made a motion to rehire, but no one else seconded the motion. Garland’s attorney, D.J. Norton said his client has a clean record with the police, and should not have been fired before he had is day in court. “From my research, no officer on the Selmer Police Department has ever been terminated because they have a criminal case pending until that criminal case was over, but that didn’t happen in Mr. Garland’s case. They terminated him before he had his day in court,” said Norton. Mayor David Robinson says the city was upholding its policies and procedures.
