Local authorities ramp up drunken driving enforcement for ‘Booze It & Lose It’

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — This holiday season, there will be zero tolerance for drunk driving in Madison County.

Booze It and Lose It is the statewide campaign that will launch Friday to promote sober driving thanks to a grant from the Tennessee Governor’s Highway Safety Office.

Madison County deputies, Jackson police and the Tennessee Highway Patrol will be working overtime to stop those who choose to drink and get behind the wheel.

This year across the state there have been almost 5,000 alcohol-related crashes, a number Madison County Sgt. Joe Gill says he doesn’t want to see increase.

“We don’t want to see people involved in crashes ’cause they have the tendency to be ugly, and people die,” Gill said. “So please, people are going to go out and have a good time during the holidays, have a designated driver. That’s the best gift you can give anyone.”

With increased enforcement, Tennessee traffic fatalities have decreased by 39 deaths.
