MAURY CITY, Tenn.–Toilets have turned up outside homes across Crockett County. A local group said they are flushing yards to raise money for cancer research. “I‘ve had several people stop and ask me, ‘why do you have this toilet in your yard and at one time I had three in this yard,” said Teresa Mathias. Mathias and her teammates dump toilets in yards for a fee. “For $25 you can flush your neighbor,” she said. “Several requests for after dark flushings, but I don‘t like doing that because people shoot after dark around here.” Proceeds from the purchase go to Crockett County Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society. The group started the purple potty fundraiser several weeks ago and already raised about $1,000. “Well, someone knocked on my door and said I had been flushed,” said Martha Bushart. Bushart received a purple potty, but does not mind. She lost several family members to cancer. “It‘s just a great feeling knowing that people are doing this.” The group hopes to raise $5,000. “You just never know when the purple potty‘s gonna show up,” said Mathias. The fundraiser continues through the end of April. People can flush a neighbor or friend for $25. People can have the purple potty removed immediately for $15 or keep it in the yard for two days at no cost. Flushing insurance is available for $30 for people who do not want a toilet delivered to their yard. For more information contact Teresa Mathias at 731-780-3814.
