VFW spreads Christmas Joy to Senior Veterans
MCKENZIE, Tenn. — The “Veterans in Care” program is an annual tradition where McKenzie VFW members visit several senior assisted living homes in Carroll County.
“Christmas time is a lonely time for Veterans and military personnel. We just wanted to share a little time with the veterans and wish them a Merry Christmas,” VFW member S.T. Holmes explained to WBBJ Sunday.
The program is an annual tradition where McKenzie VFW members offer over 50 senior veterans gifts, food and even live entertainment over a two day span.
VFW member Michael Morgan said it’s not just about giving gifts, but spending precious time with senior veterans.
“It feels good just knowing that we’re here for them. Talking with them and spending time with them. Just getting to know them. It’s really great,” Morgan said.
McKenzie Mayor, Jill Holland also made appearances in the program.
VFW members are hoping to expand membership in order to reach out to more senior veterans.
The Veterans in Care program will continue once again next Christmas.
