What you should know before you regift

JACKSON, Tenn. – For some West Tennesseans, among their holiday traditions is the practice of re-gifting.  Re-gifting is when you receive a gift you don’t like or don’t want and instead of keeping it, you give it to someone else as a gift.

Most people  said when they receive a gift they don’t like, they never tell the person.  Instead they start thinking of someone on their list who might like the gift.  But skilled regifters say you have to be careful.  The biggest faux pas — giving someone a gift they gave to you!

Other big rules to follow when regifting:  make sure it’s still in the original packaging, don’t re-gift to immediate family members, and if you get caught just own up to it.

According to the website Regiftable.com, the eight most regifted items are candles, gift cards, housewares, clothing, bath items (lotions, soaps, shower gels), fruitcake, gift baskets, and alcohol.
