Christmas cooks using help from local businesses

JACKSON, Tenn. — Christmas is only two days away, and the next best thing to the presents is the food.

The Old Country Store is cooking nonstop because they said they have around 100 Christmas pickup orders over the next two days.

“Right now we are having more pickup orders for actual meals. We have about 60 going on today,” General Manager Brooks Shaw said. “We have about 40 pickups over the next two days from our bakery.”

Many people are spending their Christmas holiday prepping, shopping and cooking. But this year, some are using some old country fixins’ to help lighten the load.

“A lot of people are choosing to do pickups instead of cooking, or kind of supplement their own cooking with a couple vegetables here,” Shaw said. “So they will do a ham at home or a turkey at home, and they’ll just get their vegetables from someone like us.”

Janet Utley normally cooks all of her food for the holidays.

“There is so much to do in so little time, and it really helps out,” she said.

She finished up her grocery shopping Wednesday morning after starting at 6:30 a.m. to avoid traffic.

“I ordered a cake for my son. He is coming in from Nevada, him and his girlfriend,” Utley said. “And I ran out of time, so I just wanted to shorten my workload and come and pick it up.”

Shaw says the Old Country Store has stopped taking orders for food. However, they may still be able to help you out.

“There may be a couple of things that people can come in here and get, but we do have plenty of pies left,” he said. “So if anybody needs a pie, come on down to the Old Country Store and get them.”
