Flash floods take Jackson drivers by surprise

JACKSON, Tenn. — Quickly rising waters on roads across Jackson took drivers by surprise as a storm passed through the area, Wednesday.  As heavy rains fell, around 6 p.m., the intersection at Hollywood Drive and Airways Boulevard quickly flooded.  Waters got as high as two feet at one point.

Some drivers stopped before driving into the waters, but others were seen trying to pass through the moving waters.  That is exactly what safety experts say you should never do.

One WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News viewer knows that all too well.  She sent the attached picture to the newsroom after she had to abandon her car on Allen Avenue in east Jackson.  She said the rising waters took her by surprise.

Luckily she was able to get out safely, but the waters had to recede before her car could be rescued.
