Annual Kwanzaa Celebration takes place in East Jackson
EAST JACKSON, Tenn. — Many people came out to the 27th annual Kwanzaa celebration in East Jackson. The celebration was dedicated to the heritage and culture of the Kwanzaa tradition, featuring live performances, food, and vendors from a variety of businesses.
“There’s a lot of things that need to be done in the community. We have a lot of leaders here today from this program, there will be some dialogue, and talking about the next step,” said SAACA President, Wendy Martin.
SAACA members say the Kwanzaa Celebration is all about celebrating heritage and bringing the community together. “When people come to this Kwanzaa Celebration, they understand what it means to be united and to cooperate with each other,” said attendee Gertrude Copeland.
Event creators are more concerned with the education of Kwanzaa, rather than the celebration. “The more educated a child is about Kwanzaa, they will understand that this celebration helps them to understand how they are to cooperate, how they are to share, how they are to make things better for them,” said Copeland.
Event creators plan to hold the Kwanzaa celebration once again next year.
