Starkville, Oktibbeha County discuss central 911 center

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) – A delay in purchasing new 911 equipment for the Oktibbeha County Emergency Management Association could provide time for the county and Starkville leaders to explore creating a central dispatching call center.

County Supervisors John Montgomery and Orlando Trainer and incoming Supervisor Bricklee Miller tell the Commercial Dispatch they’re willing to discuss a joint venture that could create a 911 operation either in the county education building or in the Starkville Police Department’s headquarters.

Currently, the 911 center handles all calls in Oktibbeha County. Its dispatchers, however, then relay to Starkville police specific calls.

Officials say a combined dispatching effort could eliminate the need for transfers.
