Coroner identifies Hattiesburg murder victim
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) – Hattiesburg officials have identified the victim in a Tuesday night murder as 43-year-old Richard DeShawn Barnes.
Forrest County deputy coroner Jonathan Nobles tells The Hattiesburg American an autopsy is being conducted at the state crime lab in Jackson, but it appears Barnes died of multiple gunshot wounds.
Police are looking for a suspect or suspects in the shooting, which occurred at an abandoned house.
Lt. Jon Traxler says officers were informed of the incident about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday when they were dispatched to Forrest General Hospital following a report of a shooting victim who had arrived in a vehicle. Barnes was pronounced dead at the hospital.
