Hattiesburg woman, 39, killed; man, 64, charged with murder
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) – Hattiesburg police say a 64-year-old man is accused of shooting and killing his 39-year-old girlfriend.
The Hattiesburg American reports that Theopolis Schaffer is being held in the Forrest County jail on a charge of murder.
Lt. Branden McLemore says police answered reports of shots fired in an apartment about 11 p.m. Friday and found Anna Griffith suffering from a bullet wound. Forrest County Deputy Coroner Lisa Klem says Griffith was pronounced dead less than an hour later.
Klem says the cause of death appeared to be a single gunshot wound. Griffith’s body has been sent to the State Crime Lab in Jackson for an autopsy.
