Former police officer sentenced for offensive touching

JACKSON, Tenn. — Former Jackson police officer Lamont Gray and his attorney, Nathan Spencer, walked into the courtroom Monday morning, two months after Gray stood trial for charges of rape, sexual battery and offensive touching. It all stemmed from an April 2014 incident.

lamont gray“This is a situation, although the jury did find him guilty of sexual battery, the jury did feel like he did commit an assault,” Judge Don Allen said.

The jury ruled Gray was not guilty of rape or sexual battery but that he was guilty of offensive touching. Monday morning’s ruling keeps the sentencing the same.

“I know he describes his wife and daughter as his life, yet he committed this sexual act while he was still married,” Judge Allen said.

Gray applied for a diversion in the case, but after consideration from the judge, that application was denied.

Gray will serve 30 days in jail, is put on six months of probation and will pay all court costs and a $500 fine. He also is ordered to stay away from the victim.

He will appear in court Feb. 8 to begin his sentence.
