Local deputy loses home in fire

DYER COUNTY, Tenn. — Charred rubble is all that’s left of Dyer County Deputy Allen Fair’s home after a fire erupted around 4 a.m. Monday.

AScreen Shot 2016-01-04 at 4.47.00 PMccording to the fire department, Fair was in his home when the fire started. A neighbor who was driving by saw the flames and decided to alert Fair by knocking on his window. “The fire had already progressed quite a bit before he was made aware of it,” Dyer County Fire Chief James Medling said.

Fair was able to get out safely but not before tossing his dog out the window before jumping out himself. Right now, investigators are not ruling the fire as arson. However, investigations are still not complete. “We’re looking at several different options right now, several different possible points of origin,” Medling said.

According to Chief Medling, one possible cause of the fire could have been a car parked beside the house. “It was probably a personal vehicle that would have caused [the fire], if that was indeed the case. We’re not sure at the time,” he said.

Both the deputy’s personal vehicle and patrol car were destroyed by the flames. Neighbors say they’re just happy Deputy Fair escaped unharmed. “Great guy, great neighbor. He’s been there when I needed him,” neighbor Lisa Ford said.
