Police: Man charged with attempted murder in teen shooting

GREENVILLE, Miss. (AP) – A 24-year-old Greenville man has been arrested after authorities say he shot a teenager in the back of the head.

Greenville Assistant Police Chief Michael Merchant tells the Delta Democrat-Times that Jamarcus Davis was arrested Sunday. He’s charged with attempted murder in the shooting of 18-year-old Patrick Lance.

Lance told police he was driving in his car early Sunday when two other vehicles approached him at a Burger King restaurant. Merchant said Lance told police that the suspects followed him after he fled the area and began firing into his vehicle.

Merchant says Lance was struck in the head once. Lance was flown to a hospital, where he’s listed in stable condition.

The investigation continues. It isn’t clear if Davis has an attorney.
